Berit Engen WOOF and D'RASH - Weaving a Thousand Jewish Tapestries
HAGGADAH III
– Foodlude

We recite blessings for food, reflect on matzah, and remember Rabbi Hillel, with the help of a symbolic sandwich. Finally, we eat the meal.

“…v’tzivanu al ‘achilat matzah” (– The Many-layered Metaphor)
2010
8.5″ x 6.5″

The tapestry depicts the three wrapped and stacked ritual matzot. It is a meditation on this dry flat bread of little taste but of a large collection of contradictory, symbolic meanings: poverty, bondage, tribal hierarchy, religious status – and redemption and freedom.
