MY TAPESTRIES: 36 SERIES > The Shoah (I-III)
THE SHOAH (I)
– The Shive-Bird’s List
According to the Tradition, birds carry our prayers to God. I imagine these songs of the Shoah (especially the ones by or about children) as prayers of remembrance for the Yiddish poet Itzik Manger’s shive-foygl, the bird of mourning, to bring on her flight.
THE SHOAH (II)
– The Unbearable Weight of the Last Butterfly
The titles are phrases from poetry and songs expressing how the Jewish view of God, history, hope, and purpose got challenged.
THE SHOAH (III)
– The Unimaginable and in Spite of It
Survivors and the generation that followed the Shoah quietly kept the remnants together; the following generations picked them up and have felt able to renew, create, and state their presence.
